Thoughts at School

|
Inbetween all the work at school my mind wanders and inevitably I find myself at the computer looking for something on the Internet. Today, its a tie between political porno (i.e. Barak Cabinet Updates, Liberman getting the shaft, etc) and a bit of homesickness.

Officially, the countdown is on. In exactly one month Anah and I will be back in Wisconsin with friends and family. For all the adventures and good times down here its nothing compared to a home-cooked-mom-meal and a few (or a lot?) of beers (Riverwest Stein, please?!?!??!) with friends.

Here's the result of a combination of Internet and homesickness; ladies and gentlemen, Milwaukee's Best (like that?). The Candliers!

Sexiest?

|
Today (when I was supposed to be lesson planning) I was checking out JSOnline.com, which is the online version of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, when I discovered some shocking news.

No, not another crime wave, or even an article about the public schools' failures (which there was a whole series of "I-Team" investigative stories about MPS today), but this article.

The magazine Marie Claire recently choose Milwaukee as its "sexiest" city. I know, it blew my mind too.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Milwaukee, but I have a hard time thinking of the also-awarded fattest and drunkest city in the nation as also the sexiest. Unless of course one combines all three and your have drunk, fat people hooking up because of the "beer goggles" effect.

I can only assume that the award was based on the fact that Anah and I were living there for the past few years. Marie Claire spent months (if not years) working on this story so the research is probably pretty solid. Unfortunately, the ranking is sure to slip a bit, but I think San Pedro Sula, Honduras might just pop up on the sexy radar.

That is once you can see past the crushing poverty (which, of course, Marie Claire did as well with Milwaukee).

Departuring Soon

Anah and I are sitting around her parents' house waiting for them to get home, but this time tomorrow we'll be in flight to San Pedro Sula to arrive (if everything goes as planned) by 9pm. Our principals are to pick us up at the airport so we don't get fleeced by any Gringo-watchers.

In the meantime, her and I are just having fits and starts... wandering around the house trying to do anything to keep for getting too anxious about what's in store for us tomorrow.

We're taking the 'rents out for a good-bye dinner and a thank you for the fabulous wedding they threw us last weekend. Hopefully things won't be too dramatic tomorrow, but I'm putting my money on the fact that it will be very emotional. I just hope that no one at the airport thinks I've taken Anah against her will on the plane with all the crying that I imagine she'll be doing. Not to say, of course, that I won't as well, but hers will probably last longer!

Either way, We've got all of our stuff packed and here's to hoping the airlines let us take it all aboard.

Next time we'll be posting from sunny (or otherwise) San Pedro Sula!
