Mayans and Maria

|
My blogging motivation is not nearly as strong as my hubby's, but after a fantastic weekend in Copan with my darling dear Maria I felt I should share some photos at the very least. Maria came into town last Tuesday, joined me at school on Wednesday and then we left for Copan on Thursday. We'd visited Copan early this year when my parents were here and loved it, and I knew Maria would really enjoy not only the Mayan ruins, but also the tranquil town. Copan did not disappoint, we had a great time exploring and just spending time together. As most of you know, the last month hasn't been an easy one for my little first grade class, and although it was tough to leave them, it was great to have a break and also see a much loved, familiar face.

So here are some highlights:

1) Hacienda San Lucas- Our first night we went up to this lovely little place to have some drinks and enjoy the view. It was worth it...there was a strange group of middle-aged hippies doing some chanting behind us, but we did our best to ignore it...

2) Copan Ruinas, with the help of our guide and these trusty Macaws, Maria and I hunted for clues to all of the Ancient Mayan mysteries.

3) Zipline Canopy Tour- This was a blast, but definitely not a normal Anah-activity. Basically throughout the forest they have these 'ziplines' set up and you zoom from tree to tree like a little monkey. I love the contrast between Maria's face and mine...apparently one of us doesn't have the built-in DANGER METER...

Dangermeter reading is off the charts!

4) Hot Springs- Although sitting in a hot pool of water on a 95 degree day isn't ideal, we still enjoyed our trip up to the hotsprings. It was a gorgeous ride, about 45 minutes from Copan into the mountains. Also, the springs themselves were very impressive- boiling hot water coming up from the earth is always interesting.

On the drive up...

5) Around Town- Probably the best part of the trip was just bumming around the town, lots of colorful sights and charm.

Thanks for coming, Maria! Anyone else want to come visit? XOXO
